Yes, we are indeed the same owners of the first zero waste shop in Birmingham. KILO ZIRO is our zero-waste café bar that is an extension of our ethos to reduce waste, work with local producers and to be as sustainable as possible.
The Clean Kilo supermarket is open in Bournville – 249 Mary Vale Rd, B30 1PN
Please see more information about The Clean Kilo on our website: www.thecleankilo.co.uk or follow us on socials @thecleankilo
The term ‘zero waste’ is a set of principles focused on waste prevention so that use of resources are avoided, repurposed and/or reused. The goal of the movement is to avoid sending trash to landfills/end up in the environment.
We minimise packaging waste by requesting a circular system with many of our suppliers such as our wine, beers, house gin & vodka, coffee, olives, snacks and many more local products. This could be in the form of refillable kegs, bottles, pouches, buckets, drums etc.
To reduce food waste, we take surplus from our own grocery stores to make into our fresh cocktails and we have recently extended our ethos to suppliers we collaborate with in our Bar Food Menu.
To reduce our carbon footprint, we like to work as local as possible which is why we have a wide range of local craft beer & cider, alongside locally made spirits and an Afternoon Tea curated with independent brands.
Supporting the right organisations matter to us, that’s why we select premium brands that have a sustainable ethos such as carbon negative rums and gins or use ‘discarded’ items to make their spirits.
It doesn’t stop there – even our back of house cleaning products are circular and get refilled from our very own Zero Waste Shop, The Clean Kilo! We even take our cloths back to wash to avoid as much single use blue roll as possible!
